The Fleur De Lis and Louisiana Sports

The fleur de lis has become a recognizable symbol among sports teams. The New Orleans Saints have used the symbol on their uniforms for quite some time now. We have also noticed that since the logo has such a symbolic meaning to the city that another famous team has adopted the symbol into their uniform as well.

Starting with this season, the New Orleans Hornets have incorporated the fleur de lis into their team jerseys as well. The new design is a honeybee intertwined with a fleur de lis, and we think that the new design looks great! You can certainly pair any type of fleur de lis accessory with this honeybee!

It's exciting to see that the the fleur de lis can be incorporated into so many different facets of things that are important to the city like professional sports. The Saints and the Hornets are two important organizations that contribute to the rebuilding of New Orleans. In fact they are so important, that keeping the teams in the city has become a major factor in the upcoming governor's race.

The state of Louisiana will be voting for the new governor on Saturday, October 20, 2007. Important factors in voting decisions from fans may be how the new governor will work with both teams, ensuring they stay in New Orleans. Nola.com has an ongoing discussion about this topic with the locals to find out their opinions on the topic.

We would love to hear your opinions on if you think that professional sports should stay in Louisiana or not, and if you think it should be a factor in the governor's race.
